Authentic materials are in form of print, video and audio materials that the students encounter in their daily lives. This includes bills, job application form, voice mail messages, radio programs, movie clips, and menus. It is something that is not being created to exist but a real thing that could be found anywhere around us. It would be an excellent learning tools for students because they are authentic.
Some examples of many types of print materials includes ; utility bills, traffic tickets, greeting cards, calendars, magazines, food labels, TV guides, newspapers, ATM screens, street signs, coupons, ATM receipts and order form.
Meanwhile examples for authentic auditory are ; phone messages, radio broadcasts, podcasts, e-books, movies, videos/DVDs, television programs and clips.
Authentic materials help students connect to the outside world. They will be able to get to use the language which is appropriate with the situation that they will be encounter and maybe already been going through the process. Therefore, teachers should be teaching the students according to their needs and goal. It is to ensure that the students will be able to benefit from the lesson and the use of authentic material.
